// MANNED BOATS
Earthrace Conservation is building a new and exciting vessel specifically designed for marine conservation. Known as Earthrace-2, this trimaran – a boat with three hulls – will be used for combatting illegal fishing, fisheries enforcement and marine conservation and scientific research.
Latest and greatest: Although the vessel is still in the production phase, it will come equipped with
extensive surveillance technology including a helicopter drone that has a 100 nautical mile range, an ELINT electronic detection system and FLIR thermal imaging capabilities. Moreover, the vessel will have 2 rigid inflatable boats and an amphibious vessel that can be launched from the side of the boat. This means that the larger Earthrace-2 will have the ability to carry and use smaller vessels for particular missions such as search and rescue.
Don’t forget the popcorn : This vessel will feature a 30-person theater to serve as a briefing room prior to missions.
Not the new kids on the block: Earthrace Conservation is not new to the trimaran world. The organization built a previous trimaran, the Ady Gil, which currently holds the world record for circling the globe running on renewable biodiesel fuel. Moreover, Earthrace Conservation worked on an anti-whaling campaign using the craft. The marine world should have high expectations for Earthrace-2. Testing for the boat scheduled to begin November 2018.
