Loon Copter

The Loon Copter won the UAE 'Drones for Good' 2016 competition for a US $1 million prize and is in the development stages. The versatility of this drone makes it a great choice for monitoring MPAs.

Out of this world: The Loon Copter is three drones in one: it can operate fully submerged as an unmanned underwater system, on the surface of the water as an unmanned surface vessel and in the air as an unmanned aerial system. The potential impact that this combined drone would have on the marine enforcement space is substantial given that it can carry out a variety of mission types, reducing costs and expanding capabilities.

Coming soon: Developed by the Oakland University Embedded Systems Research Laboratory, the Loon Copter just completed proof of concept phase in Spring of 2016 and is in early stages of development for a commercial platform.
